Instagram post 2194046922170463697_1424877 Family. Through a fancy lens. ❤️
Update: We are working with occupational therapists on Sebastian’s feedings and waiting for his air pocket to be reabsorbed. No timeline, just hope and patience.
Alaric has plumped up and eats a ton. It’s worn me out hardcore to nurse and pump all day. My go-to show for both activities is Schitt’s Creek. Took me a few episodes to get into it but I am in love. Anyone else? Best wishes. 😜
PS As always, thanks to everyone who has offered kind words, actions, and optimism. It’s truly appreciated! Even if it makes me cry. 😊
Instagram post 2192335794776286367_1424877 I wanted to add a somewhat “normal” photo to your feed. Not my new normal that consists of daily NICU visits (those can be seen when you swipe). Trying to dress “cute” has helped with my mood a lot - so yay new @miradela sweater and @veatge pieces. 🥰
Sebastian’s status changes daily - and sometimes hourly - like it did yesterday.
Just to explain, chest tubes serve to drain any air leaks that were present after his esophogeal atresia surgery. Since they’ve been removed we’ve been able to hold him. If they discover that air has re-accumulated they’ll put a tube back in through his side, which is uncomfortable for him, and also means we can’t hold him until it’s out again. The doctors are checking a couple times daily, so fingers crossed for the best of course, but I would really love to continue to cuddle my bubs. I think it helps a lot. 🙏🏻💙
PS That’s sleepy Alaric in the final photo. 💙💙 #3weeksold #3weekspostpartum #NICU
Instagram post 2191033293716197504_1424877 Don’t mind me. I’m just in heaven.
Got to hold my baby bubs Sebastian for the first time ever! ❤️❤️❤️
It’s amazing how quickly things can change. Fingers crossed for continued progress.
They removed his second tube so he’s probably much more comfy, and that’s also why we can hold him now. Sebastian downed his bottle (just 15cc but a HUGE improvement for just his third feeding). Blood transfusion because apparently he takes after me a little bit. Sorry, bubs.
No tears from him at all today because he appears to love being held. 🥰🥰🥰
(How am I supposed to leave??) #NICU #simplythebest
Instagram post 2189688207074096306_1424877 We are at a standstill at the moment. Sebastian’s air pocket returned so feedings are postponed to deal with it (again). It’s not a *huge* setback, just disappointing. The combination of that, the rough nights with Alaric, and Lila’s intense tantrums, are really wearing us down, and leaving Daniel and I pretty bummed out.
Thanks to everyone for the continued support during this strange and stressful time. 💙
Instagram post 2188172996131414175_1424877 Sebastian’s first bottle feed. 🥰
I’m a nervous wreck, but Daniel and our awesome nurse had more luck.
Baby steps...but he did get a little down. ❤️❤️❤️ #NICU
Instagram post 2187575051900026322_1424877 I am thankful for my little world that seems so incredibly big.
I am thankful for my wonderful husband who has taken such amazing care of all of us, sacrificed his time and comfort, and has especially been there for Lila, with extreme patience and attentiveness, when I have been unable.
Our lives are somewhere new and unexpected, and I am very thankful to have such caring people in my life: both of our families, friends, and anyone who has left a kind sentiment. All of your messages and comments have brought hope into my heart and tears to my eyes. Thank you so much. 💙 Happy Thanksgiving. 🍁
(The last slide is a video of Sebastian successfully sucking on his paci. Baby steps. ❤️)
Instagram post 2185340284542503870_1424877 During today’s visit we arrived while Sebastian was having his esophogram done (a day early). When he returned to the NICU the doctors told us his leak had closed up. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 The news we’ve been waiting for. You go, Sebastian! Next steps would be feeding through a tube in his nose until his breathing tube is removed (within the next two days), then bottle feeding, and perhaps breastfeeding. I might get to see my boy’s face soon...and hold him for the first time. 🥰 We’ll get more answers tomorrow. I hope I didn’t jinx anything. ❤️❤️❤️
PS Notice any weird edits? I’ve attempted to hide Seb’s colostomy bag. #NICU
Instagram post 2184255124195606452_1424877 Sebastian is currently off sedation, which made him the most awake and alert I have ever seen him. ❤️
We are waiting for Tuesday, the next esophogram. Hoping and praying that the leak they found *last* Tuesday has closed up. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 #nicu
EDIT// We just returned from a visit. The air pocket next to his lung has decreased so they lessened his morphine. His “peep” (?) level was also lowered and he’s breathing more independently. He was not sedated but slept the whole visit. His heart rate lowered by about ten BPM while we talked, sang, and held hands. 💙
