While I always wish Lila would stop growing, life is just more and more fun as time goes by. Lately her independence has kicked in, and she wants to do everything on her own. “I do it, mama.”
Lila has been feeding herself for a while, but now she insists on brushing her own hair (and sometimes mine), teeth, “reading” books aloud, and even picking out her clothes for the day. Sometimes I can argue her choice of attire, and other times she has a melt down if she can’t wear a specific pair of shoes. I choose my battles. 🙂
Lila seems to crave her independence in some regards, but I have been waiting around for her to show an interest in potty training. Lila has asked me to change her diaper a few times, but does not understand that she should alert me before going potty, so we can try using the toilet. Although we aren’t quite there yet (and I really don’t mind), I’ve been letting her use Nice ‘n CLEAN Baby Wipes as a sort of transition.
So instead, perhaps as a sort of prep, Lila is helping me change her diaper by attempting to clean herself up. I’ll do most of the “heavy” wiping if it’s an especially saturated diaper, and she will pull out a wipe and get busy afterwards.
Lila loves practicing on her “babies” (AKA dolls). “Can I change my baby’s diaper?” She will pull a wipe or two out of the container, get busy, and then hold it up and ask if I can see it. At first I thought she was referring to the wipes’ leaf pattern, until I realized she meant her baby’s poop. LOL Have y’all seen the movie Hook? It makes me think of the scene where the lost boys are pretending to eat an invisible dinner. Ha!
Nice ‘n Clean baby wipes have two varieties (unscented/sensitive and scented) in multiple kinds of packaging. I consider these a travel pack, a gift pack, and a home pack/box – and all sizes are available at H-E-B. I started using the sensitive pack because Lila gets diaper rashes relatively often, but the scented variety (green tea cucumber) smells so good, we quickly transitioned to that one. The baby wipes are hypoallergenic and 99% purified water, so I wouldn’t have to worry anyway.I’m not in a rush to potty train, but getting Lila ready for the “ultimate independence” at this age has been a lot of fun.
Currently I’m trying to work on Lila’s bedtime independence. She’s doing pretty well, but sometimes she spends 15-20 minutes jumping on the bed, while singing “no more monkeys jumping on the bed!” I mean, we are always a work in progress around here. 🙂
Make sure to grab some Nice ‘n Clean Baby Wipes at your local H-E-B! 🙂
