Insta-Week! doggie style

[I couldn't resist!]
Composing my Insta-Weeks makes me realize that I am, in fact, a dog lady. And this week I went a little overboard! Let's get all that adorableness out of the way first. :)

See? And the bottom two aren't even mine. :)
If you have ever thought about adding a dog to your life, please consider adopting from a shelter first. Animal cruelty/ignorance is an issue very near and dear to my heart. And if I worded that know what I mean. :)

Daniel's return! With lots of goodies! Including a Melodica.
And the most delicious vegetarian sandwich in all the land. He didn't bring that back from Cambodia, though. :)
But seriously, I have been craving a sandwich...and it's been hard finding a vegetarian one that doesn't involve a veggie patty, or straight up vegetables. Very nice. Thanks Tofurky!

Guess which book I am reading??
Border Town: Quince Clash! It's about these three girls...
Actually reading: Feedback, the sequel to Variant!

Oh, and in case you are curious, The Hunger Pains is a graphic novel poking fun at The Hunger Games. Click for excerpt

Painting Things White

When I moved in to my current home, my obsession with greens and browns was out of control. Parts of it still look awesome [to me at least!], but other shades have grown a little too pukey.

I mentioned some projects last week. One of them was painting the fireplace white. It's marble and took a lot of sanding...but I'm really happy with the result. The marble looked a bit outdated.
I'd like to remove the glass doors, too...clean it up a bit, and put some big ol' candles in there.
What are some other [unique] ways to utilize a fireplace that is never used? :)

The biggest puke-green wall has been whitewashed! This took the longest...and the most man-power.

Any ideas for what to do with this wall? I was thinking about some square/rectangle floating shelves?
Chairs are white, too. The one bucket of paint covered the fireplace thrice, chairs 2.5 times, and 2-3 coats on the wall, too. :)

Every day over the break, I did a little bit. Took the whole week! And for as much as I did, it only cost me about $100 from Home Depot: bucket of paint, brush/roller/paint tray pack, spackle, primer, sand paper, and tape.

Things to keep me entertained as I painted? Netflix, Hulu Plus, and the Back to the Future trilogy.
Michael J. Fox on Blu-ray ain't too shabby. :)

Quarter Life Crisis

I was recently going through an old journal. I had made one of those lists of "things to do before you turn..." a certain age [ahem...30...cough...gag]. "Updating my hair" is my main focus this week.
Other, much cooler and profound items, include:
1. explore a small town [CHECK]
2. work on my friendships [CHECK]
3. drop 10 lbs [maybe eventually...]
4. develop a workout routine [CHECK]
5. revamp my house [it's a process!]
6. road trip [CHECK and check BUT I WANT MORE]
7. garage sale [workin' on it]
8. walk the dogs more/take them to the park [CHECKish]
9. support an organization i am passionate about [CHECK]
and a lot of etc I am "working on."
[sew an outfit, new ideas for shop, etc!]

I'm kind of glad that 30 is the new 20. At least in some respects.
HA! did you see where I found that article??? IRONY.
This post, opposing the sentiment I am clinging to with my wrinkly old lady hands, kind of makes me feel okay, though.
But I still don't feel like a responsible adult. :)

And I certainly don't act like one!
p.s. The bear hat is by katastrophic from my friend Renee. :)

Recently, due to obvious reasons, friends have been sharing all for which they are thankful. I am not a very introspective person and felt like anything I posted on the matter would be superficial. But this week, while Daniel was in Cambodia, I had a lot of time to think.

In some respects, I am a lazy person. I love hanging out with my friends and loved ones, but it usually has to be someone else's idea.
So what happens when Daniel is gone? A lot of alone time.
Luckily, I have amazing friends and family. :)

The first day of Thanksgiving break, the day Daniel left, I was pretty distraught. Usually I am the one being driven to the airport. Rarely the driver.
And then a text message came through, and a couple hours later I was hanging around a fire pit, surrounded by friends, eating s'mores, and playing with puppies.

I ended up spending my break with amazing people. Whether it was my family, sister, dear friends, co-workers...and I am thankful for them. I am thankful for the people in my life. And how they put up with me and my quirks and obsessions. And even if I may not contact them all that frequently, I appreciate their friendship. And their quirks. And obsessions. :)

Thank you for not abandoning me!

p.s. in case it wasn't obvious, I am also thankful for Daniel. :)

Insta-Week - Thanksgiving Break

This week has been a much needed break from life. I missed Daniel like crazy, but spent some quality time with the pups, friends, and family.

Week days are the best days for visiting The Breakfast Klub and Baby Barnaby's. The yummiest spots for breakfast in Houston. Hands down.

Buster is balancing Young House Love, which I recently got signed. That book has seriously busied my break. I've been painting a lot. And there are other ideas I hope to complete by Sunday night!

Oh, and speaking of YHL.

You can't tell, but this past What I Wore also featured the puzzle ring photographed above. My mom recently dug up some of my old jewelry from our time in Saudi Arabia. Luckily it still fits. And luckily she remembered how to put it back together. :)

My sister came home from Dallas for the week. She recently got a new phone...and a giant case. It's huge! I am mesmerized by it's adorable gigantic-ness. In other news, I got a pretty rad [and small] case for my small phone. :)

I hope everyone that celebrated Thanksgiving had a lovely one!
And well wishes to all of those who don't celebrate turkey day of course. :)

p.s. Enjoy the How I Met Your Mother reference above. Love those episodes!
