What I Wore...Halloweens past :)

While I realize it's not yet Halloween, I wanted to share some past costumes. Procrastination and laziness don't make for very good ideas, but a couple times now I've had some good results [see 2010 & 2011]. :)

In 2007 I loved my new dress from Postlapsaria. It looks like a doll's dress! So that's what I became.

2008. I purchased one of my favorite dresses [notice a theme?] at a department store. A few people told me it looked like a flight attendant's uniform...so that's what I became. :)
Also - this is back when I had "blonde" hair. I put it in quotes because the hair dresser told me it was more of a light brown. Whatever. :)

In 2009 I waited until the very last second...hence a very random cat costume
I wore a platinum wig [around this time I got really into wigs...see below.]

2010: Hit Girl! from the movie Kick Ass.

2011: Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games trilogy. My favorite so far.

2012: Foxy Roxy :)

What are you for Halloween??

book-worming

I don't normally read multiple books at once, but currently, that is the case. I started reading Breed by Chase Novak on my friend's Kindle and forgot it one day...so I started reading Every Day by David Levithan.

Every Day is a really cool idea. This person, "A," wakes up in a different body daily. Which is fine...until someone discovers what has happened to their body. dun dun dun! :)

Breed is creeptastic. For me it was slow to start, but seriously has me on the edge of my seat! This couple can't get pregnant no matter how hard they try...so they visit a special "doctor." And then there are the side effects... I wouldn't call this book "horror" because it's pretty tame in regards to the descriptions. Definitely scary, though.

In my possession and waiting to be read:
I posted about two other books [prequels] by the same author a little over a year ago. Graceling was my favorite! Fire was pretty good, too. Since Bitterblue is a sequel to Graceling, I am especially ready to crack it open!

As mentioned above, I posted about a bunch of dystopian novels. Divergent was one of them. This is the sequel, Insurgent, that a friend is letting me borrow. Divergent has been compared to Hunger Games - I don't know if I'd go that far, but I definitely had a hard time putting it down! Now for the sequel!

And last but not least! In the same post I have mentioned twice, and now thrice, I wrote about Ashes. SCORE. The sequel is out: Shadows. Ashes seriously left me with my jaw hanging. Another dystopian love. Now that Shadows is available I am hoping for the same reaction. Um, also? Note where it says "trilogy" - yay!

I am always always welcome to suggestions! I have a list going based on previous posts in regards to y'alls suggestions!

but i DO like pickles

This weekend I had quite an adventure with Kiki from I Still Hate Pickles.
[get the title now?]

And by adventure, I mean we drove to a few thrift shops that ended up being closed.

Oh hey! We found an open one!
Well, open for 10 more minutes. :)

I bought a few items, including the four mugs photographed above. I just want to fill them with beer and clank them all together. CHEERS!

I've mentioned before, my favorite activities involve a bit of wanderlust [and a dog or two...]. Yes, Kiki and I had destinations in mind, but if we saw something interesting along the way, or across the way, we stopped to take pictures. I feel like the best photographs are simple details that go unnoticed. Like the ground you walk on. You've just got to find the correct angle. :)

Kiki's POV of my wine bottle photography skillz. :-P

For more photos from our adventure, visit Kiki's blog. She's an amazing writer. You might stop visiting me because of her talented wayz. So...wait. Don't go! No, noooOOooo!

Insta-Week!

It's Halloween weekend! Are you excited?? I am planning on posting a few photos of Halloween costumes past next week. It started because I thought my costume this year was pretty lame...but painting my face makes it pretty awesome! I'll have full body shots to share later...when I am wearing something less blue and more...foxy? Don't worry, I'm no skank. :)

Daniel made his helmet himself! It's papermache and foam board mostly.
I thought he was crazy. It started out as paper cut outs that he glued together. And I'm not talkin' 5 or 6 pieces...intricate labor! The strips look something like this. Daniel had glue on his fingers for days. But you gotta admit...that's some good work! For a 30 year old. ;-)

I'm not gonna lie, things at work have been pretty stressful this year. But silly events, like "nerd day" brighten things up a bit. And it's true, the outfit above isn't too far off my normal attire... :)

Speaking of work, I mentioned that a few of us attended a conference in Austin, TX last week. I shared some photos on le blog this week. The first one consisted of my absolute favorite spots for food and sweets. :)

And then there was the day trip to Fredericksburg with Renee.

And my last shots from Austin. :)

Oh, Buster wants to dress up for Halloween, too. She really enjoys it. ;-)

Be safe this weekend! And eat lots and lots of candy....

Butter Halves

Don't get me wrong, Houston is wonderful. But if a city could be my butter better half, it would have to be Austin. Although maybe if I were to move to the Pacific Northwest, I might change my mind. :)

I am very thankful to my friends that let me crash at their place [post conference]. Visiting my old roomie and her man is always so much fun. While they were at the football game Saturday night I roamed around campus. It was incredibly surreal to take my old routes from dorm to class to the drag. If I had music playing in my ears I would have felt like a student again. I realize I probably looked like a student, but seeing all the kids walking around me, in and out of their dorms, made me feel so old. Y'all, I'm having issues with this looming thirty business...

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my Austin photos. [here, and here, too] :)
I recommend you take your own some time. And let me know, maybe I will drive up, too!

Thanks to Renee, Louise, and Karla for having patience with me.
["um, can you take my peekture??"]
