DIY: folding a mini book!

when i was in the classroom, my favorite way to assign notes was in a mini book. that way the entire unit's notes were all in one place!
plus, when it comes to math, sometimes you just gotta get creative :)
all you need to create the book is a piece of large construction paper, and scissors. the other supplies are for decorating :)
see? this is what my notes looked like:
these books are so cute and there is so much more you can do with them <3

firstly, you are going to fold your construction paper [long ways] into eighths. in half, in half, in half.
make sure to smooth the edges down real good.

pardon the crazy lighting.
on the creased edge, cut a sliver of paper from the 1st horizontal fold to the last.

and then fold some more!
hold the paper vertically with the hole facing away from you. pull/fold the middle creases outwards as if you are making a plus sign.
flatten and smooth the edges.
 and fold shut.
here is a very short video [0:53] of the process:

try not to get distracted by the cuckoo clock action in the background :)

all the cutting and folding adds an extra page to your super fun book! :)
time to decorate!

yay pup friends!
i used my polaroid pogo to print photos from my phone. the picture has an adhesive backing, so you can just stick them right in :)
that's what she said.
what will you make your book about?

cooking with feisty - tacos!

i actually borrowed and edited this recipe from Leslie Durso - she has some awesome ideas!

There isn't much explaining to do with tacos! So let's keep this short :)
You can take a lot of liberties with this "recipe." I sauteed my fake meat [+seasoning and chili powder], onions [green and white] and peppers, and mushrooms. I did the "meat" separate from the veggies and shrooms, then mixed it all together.

My favorite part is the shell. :) I don't know about you, but I used to LOVE Taco Bell's Cheesy Gordita Crunch - NOM. Take a flour tortilla, put cheese on either side and nuke it for about 20 seconds, then wrap it to the corn taco shell. WIN. The cheese acts like delicious glue.
Add whatever you want inside, and chow down!

happy eating :)

reading lately :)

a little over a week ago, i was traveling to Colorado. i know i have mentioned it before - i am sorry! BUT, i wanted to share a favorite travel activity of mine. READING.
i have also posted couple times [see here & here] about some sweet dystopian novels in which you should partake. :)
my librarian friend recommended a book to me that i finished in the weekend i traveled.
it was that good:
okay, it's a bit on the fantasy side - i compare it to Buffy the Vampire Slayer because there are many different "races" of beasts and beings, and then regular old humans, too.
if you enjoyed any of the books i linked to above, you will probably be totally engrossed by this novel as well. i'm no good at summaries, so read it yourself. :)

Currently I am reading Birthmarked because I saw a thread about it on facebook. I am only a few pages in...will update soon!

happy reading!

within the span of a week, just a few things happened.
on sunday returned from my snowboarding in Colorado with friends and family...

upon my return to the real world [aka work], i was greeted by a runaway puppy, who was having a little too much fun near some oncoming traffic. [you realize i am officially the dog lady, right? second rescue of the school year!]
pup's name was briefly sirius black, but his new owner has dubbed him "dexter" - quite suiting seeing that he enjoyed cutting up everyone's fingers with his little puppy teeth that first day.

valentine's day came and went. <3

wednesday&thursday included a quick roadtrip to austin, tx for a math conference.
any excuse to buy note-taking supplies! :)

and now it is the weekend again! how did that happen?
activities included a pajama-themed birthday party
where i hung out with my BFF from monday morning :)
and supporting some roller derby through the purchase of handmade goods :)

i spent some time with my dude. you'd think we'd see each other more often...
if you are an in-the-know houstonian, you may have guessed where i brunched :)
and i eated it all of it! nomnomnom <3

all that is left is roller derby practice! hooray!
i hope your upcoming week is SWELL :)

p.s. have you noticed my cute and tiny fox favicon?;)

Valentine's Day

I'm not going to share what I did for Valentine's Day, because it wasn't anything special. [Not that I don't like reading/hearing about others' celebratinons :)] Daniel and I make sure to spend time together, and we exchange gifts - because really? That's the best part :)
Also - he makes very awesome handmade cards every year that I get a kick out of.

On the other end of things - I made these babies for work.

Vanilla frosting is much more Valentiney, but chocolate is so much yummier :)

Do you do anything unique on Valentine's Day? Got any traditions?
