mathy

Math has always been my favorite subject. Towards the end of high school I had a friend tutor me because I struggled with Pre-Cal, but later enjoyed the courses I took in college...including Trig.
I enjoy reading, but as a chronic multi-tasker, math homework was easily completed with the television on. :) And because writing was [ironically] never my forte, I clung to numbers. The step by step process was...calming in a way. I liked seeing my work travel down the page and to one answer.

Funny little fact...In 8th grade, my teachers wanted to move me to the advanced Algebra class, but I decided against it because of a stupid crush. UGH, right?? :)

skate-a-thon :)

Houston Roller Derby had a skate-a-thon this weekend. We were raising money for our travel team, who represents us all at away bouts. We skated a 3 mile loop in the Heights area - my old stomping grounds! We even skated past my old home. Le sigh. Good times :)

I ended up raising $300 after skating 15 miles! There were 4 freshies [fresh meat] including myself, and the rest of the skaters were travel team and other derby league skaters. Most of them did about 21 miles or more! I couldn't go anymore - not because i was tired, but because my feet HURT. I can't wait until my skates are all broken in and I am that in shape...the max amount was 33 miles. Craziness!


The event ended up being a lot of fun. I'm glad we were able to raise money for our travel team and then pig out at Christian's Tailgate afterwards. :)

what i wore to work...for 30 minutes

most of y'all know that i am on summer break. but! sometimes i have to go in to work for a meeting or two...or other things...
anyway, i had to go in recently, and this is what i wore. :)

this dress was one of my renegade handmade purchases.

i bought it a couple sizes too big...but it was the only size left and the dress is so incredibly soft...i couldn't resist! i am such a sucker for soft clothing :)

Daniel's dad has been flying forever. His family needed me to do some last minute video editing a few days ago and flew me up to the fort worth area for a couple days. It was pretty rad :)

hiya! :)
i am on my way to austin in a few minutes. time to visit my pal weezy and spend some time with renee doin' crafty things and derby things! but before i go, i thought i'd share what is going on with y'all :)

last week my roller skates busted. the first pair i had purchased in august was quite a "beginner" pair of skates. now that practice is 3-4 times a week [as opposed to once a week...], they gave out. today, before austin, i am picking up my new skates. *excitement*!!! hopefully these babies, that are significantly better than my previous pair, help me get out out of my funk! the funk is in regards to my ability to improve...not my ability to have fun :) new skates plus new gym plan must equal success, right??

each day i do not have roller derby practice, i have been working out at the gym for 1.5 hours. daniel helped me figure out how many reps i need to be doing, and how much i should be lifting/pushing/pulling. i'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to work out equipment...i usually just hop on the treadmill! but hopefully all these new exercises help strengthen my legs and core [and tone my arms?]...sigh. dang the aging process! :)

all this working out will come in handy for my florida and dominican republic trips coming up this summer. and i am real psyched about my trip to miami at the end of the month! i'll be visiting my cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. AND taking my pin up style derby photos with rgbmonster and his lovely wife, SoMelificent - long time e-friends of mine :)

in the crafty world, i have been keeping busy updating the shop and taking some custom orders. it keeps me busy! i am not going to be doing any shows this summer as of right now...but i am already looking at some around the holidays!

okay, enough with the chatty cathy! what's up with y'all? any work out tips? skating tips?

comicpalooza

Last weekend I attended Comicpalooza Houston.

It was a pretty interesting event. I'm not into comic books [ I've read a few, but Daniel is the avid Comic fan :) ] but I did sign up to skate in a couple scrimmages! There is actually a lot going on - and not everything has to do with comics.

Daniel and I went on Saturday to check out the event and watch the Travel Team - Hard Knocks - scrimmage.

Have y'all heard of planking?? A few friends and i were making fun of it at our last school happy hour, so Daniel decide to plank at george r. brown [the event center]. We got a kick out of it. Especially since that same day another friend of ours posted a similar photo on facebook. hahaha

Oh, and before we are off the topic of comic books....

I saw Xmen: First Class. Loved it!! I didn't read the comics, but as a child I loved the cartoons.

Go watch the movie :)

"Mystique" is going to be the lead in Hunger Games.

GAH, can't wait for Hunger Games.......OMG. the end.
